PRESS RELEASE JANUARY 2007

Friends announce Summer Exhibition at Ganavan Pavilion

A SUMMER exhibition of the MacDougall Collection will be held at Ganavan Pavilion by kind permission of owner John MacGregor.

Helped by a small grant from the National Lottery's Awards for All scheme, the exhibition will run from May to August and will comprise sections from the social history Collection of Miss Hope MacDougall telling the story of working and domestic life in the Highlands and Islands.

With the Collection still seeking a permanent home in the Oban area, this summer exhibition will give an insight into the huge range of artefacts and archive collected over a 30-year period.

Additional activities planned include children's heritage play sessions and occasional talks for visitors as well as heritage skills demonstrations such as butter making and spinning.

Project manager Alison Chadwick said she was delighted to have received the Awards for All grant and the generous offer from John MacGregor at Ganavan. She said: 'We could not carry this project out without this excellent exhibition area and will now look to appoint a session worker to co-ordinate the project which will also need considerable volunteer input.

'We look forward to seeing as many locals and visitors as possible through the summer months both at the exhibition and at the heritage skills demonstrations.'
